KNU proves its global research competency through Global University Rankings

In the Best Global Universities in South Korea evaluated by the prestigious ‘U.S. News & World Report’ and the World University Rankings 2021 evaluated by Times Higher Education （THE）, KNU ranked in the top 20 within South Korea.
In the 2021 Best Global Universities ranking assessed by ‘U.S. News & World Report’ which was released on October 20th （Tuesday）, KNU was ranked amongst the top universities for 2 consecutive years. Specifically, KNU was ranked 23rd in Korea （984th in the world） and 5th amongst Korean National Universities
◦ This year’s assesment was a comprehensive evaluation of 1,678 universities in 86 countries around the world. The published ranking included up to 1500 universities in which 41 Korean universities made its name including KNU.
◦ In the U.S. News & World Report＇s Best Global University Rankings by subject, KNU ranked ▲3rd domestically （143rd globally） in Agricultural Science and ▲2nd domestically （290th globally） in Environment/Ecology proving its high-level global research capacity.
Additionally, in the ＇2021 THE World University Rankings＇ released by Times Higher Education（THE） on September, KNU was ranked 23rd （ranked 25th the previous year） amongst domestic university, 4th （ranked 5th the previous year）, and ranked 1,001+ in the world.
◦ In this year＇s THE World University Rankings, 35 Korean universities （1,527 universities in the world） including KNU were included.
◦ In particular, KNU newly entered U.S. News & World Report＇s Best Global University Rankings by subject in the social science field by ranking 601+ globally, 13th domestically （3rd amongst national universities）.
Furthermore, KNU was ranked 5th in Korea and 201-300th in the world in the ＇THE University Impact Rankings＇, which is evaluated based on the public role of higher education institutions. The outstanding achievement once again proved the national university＇s status as a base for mutual growth and innovative growth with the local society.
KNU has been making efforts to establish itself as a world-class research oriented institution by newly forming the Office of Research to establish an efficient operation system for research policy, planning, and support. Additionally, KNU has been strengthening its research capabilities through the Kangwon Institute of Technology （KIIT） and the Institute of Local Community by establishing convergence group research and infrastructure, and fostering research talents.
Notably, KNU was selected for the 「2020 Regional Leading Research Center」 project conducted by the Ministry of Science and the 「2020 Basic Science Research Competency Reinforcement Project」 conducted by the Ministry of Education reaffirming KNU’s excellent research capabilities.
