Agricultural Life Science Research Institute, Selected as 「University Focused Research Institute in Science and Engineering」

The Agricultural Life Science Research Institute (Director Ho-Min Kang) affiliated with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (Dean Deok-Hwan Oh) was finally selected for the 「2021 University Focused Research Institute Support Project in Science and Engineering」

he ‘University Focused Research Institute Support Project in Science and Engineering’ is supervised by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea, and is a project to establish a university research base through support for university-affiliated research institute infrastructure, inducing specialization and nurturing outstanding young researchers.

The Research Institute of Agriculture and Life Sciences selected for this project will receive a total of 7 billion KRW in research funding for up to 9 years until 2030, and conduct research tasks for ▲Constructing infrastructure related to smart agriculture convergence technology ▲Fostering new research manpower ▲Constructing a Gangwon-specialized industry-academic cooperation platform, under the theme of 'Development and commercialization of smart agriculture convergence technology'.

Professor Cheol-Sung Jang of the Department of Biological Resources Science is the research director, and ▲Professor Ho-Min Kang of Horticultural Sciences ▲Professor Dae-Hyeon Kim of the Department of Bio-Industrial Engineering ▲ Professor Ok-Hwan Lee of the Department of Bio-Industrial Engineering ▲ Professor Se-Jin Park of the School of Environmental Convergence ▲ Professor Joo-Jul Kim of the Department of Biological Resources Science are participating as joint researchers.

President Heon-young Kim said, “Based on Kangwon National University’s excellent research capabilities and core technology, we expect to strengthen the competitiveness of the smart agricultural life industry, which is the future growth engine of the region. We will actively support them in achieving their results.”
