강원대는 학칙, 총학생회 회칙에 따라 학생 자치 기구인 총학생회를 정식 기구로 인정하며, 총학생회는 학생들을 대표하여 대학의 운영, 제도 개선, 학생 복지 등 중요사항에 대해 학교에 건의하고 협의하여 학생들의 권리를 보장 받을 수 있도록 학생 대표 역할을 수행하고 있다. KNU recognizes the Student Council, a student autonomous organization, as an official body in accordance with its regulations and the Student Council＇s bylaws. The Student Council represents students and performs the role of student representatives by proposing and consulting with the university on important matters such as university operations, system improvements, and student welfare to ensure the protection of students＇ rights.

2. 전국 국·공립대학 총학생회 참여 Participation in the National Association of Student Councils of Public Universities
강원대학교 학생회는 전국의 국·공립 총학생회 간의 교류와 연대, 복리 증진 및 권익 신장을 목적으로 하는 전국 국·공립대학 총학생회에 참여하여 민주적인 대학의 자율화를 위해 활동하고 있다. The KNU Student Council is participating in the National Association of Student Councils of Public Universities, which aims to promote exchange and solidarity among student councils of public universities nationwide, enhance welfare, and protect rights, in order to work towards the autonomy of democratic universities.
3. 학생 대표 선출 Election of student representatives
강원대는 학칙에 근거하여 자유롭고 민주적인 자치활동을 통해 대학의 자율적 발전을 도모하고자 총학생회를 구성하여 운영하고 있으며 공정한 선거를 통해 학생회장 및 임원을 선출하고 있다. KNU, based on its academic regulations, aims to promote the autonomous development of the university through free and democratic self-governing activities by forming and operating a Student Council, and electing the student council president and officers through fair elections.
